July, 2026

The thing nobody tells you about the Big 12: unlike the SEC, there is no unified conference-wide bag policy. Every school sets its own rules. Most follow the familiar clear bag standard — but a few don't, and one school barely allows bags at all.

If you're traveling to an away game this season, that difference matters. Here's the complete school-by-school guide for the 2026 season, verified against each school's published policy, plus what to pack and how to look put-together doing it.

The "standard" clear bag policy (what most Big 12 schools use)

Most Big 12 stadiums follow the NFL-style clear bag standard. You can bring one of the following:

  • A clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12"
  • A one-gallon clear plastic freezer-style bag (Ziploc or equivalent)

Plus, at most schools, a small clutch no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" — roughly the size of a hand — which doesn't have to be clear. But because every Big 12 school writes its own policy, check your specific stadium below and confirm on the school's official athletics site before game day.

What's NOT permitted (everywhere)

  • Backpacks (clear or not)
  • Purses larger than the clutch limit
  • Fanny packs and cinch bags
  • Camera and binocular cases
  • Mesh, woven, or tinted bags
  • Clear bags with oversized logos (several schools cap logos at roughly 4.5" x 3.5")

School-by-school bag rules for 2026

The three big exceptions first: BYU has a no-bag policy (small clutch only), TCU allows a more generous 14" x 14" clear bag, and Utah is clear-bags-only with no clutch exception. Know before you go.

Arizona (Arizona Stadium, Tucson)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag plus a hand-size clutch (approximately 4.5" x 6.5"). All bags searched at the gate.

Arizona State (Mountain America Stadium, Tempe)

Standard policy: one clear 12" x 6" x 12" bag or one-gallon bag, plus a 4.5" x 6.5" clutch. Heads up: there's no bag check at the stadium — a non-compliant bag means a walk back to the car.

Baylor (McLane Stadium, Waco)

Clear bag up to 12" x 12" x 6" (Baylor publishes its dimensions slightly differently, but your standard clear tote fits), a one-gallon freezer bag, plus a non-clear clutch up to 4.5" x 6.5".

BYU (LaVell Edwards Stadium, Provo) — the strictest in the Big 12

BYU enforces a no-bag policy. The only bag allowed is a small clutch no larger than 5" x 8" x 1", one per person — even standard clear stadium totes are not permitted. Medically necessary bags and diaper bags are allowed after inspection.

Cincinnati (Nippert Stadium)

Standard policy: one clear 12" x 6" x 12" bag or one-gallon bag, and a hand-size clutch up to 4.5" x 6.5".

Colorado (Folsom Field, Boulder)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag, one-gallon bag, or 4.5" x 6.5" clutch. Folsom also allows one factory-sealed non-alcoholic beverage (51 oz. or smaller) per ticket holder.

Houston (Space City Financial Stadium)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag or one-gallon freezer bag, plus a 4.5" x 6.5" clutch.

Iowa State (Jack Trice Stadium, Ames)

Standard policy, with one quirk: logos on your clear bag can't exceed 4.5" x 3.5". Exceptions for medical and childcare bags after inspection.

Kansas (David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, Lawrence)

Clear bags up to 12" x 6" x 12" with a logo on one side only, plus a small clutch — KU's allowance runs slightly larger than most (up to 5.5" x 8.5").

Kansas State (Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan)

Standard clear bag policy, applied across all K-State venues.

Oklahoma State (Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater)

Standard policy with a bonus option: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag, clear drawstring bag up to 12" x 12", or one-gallon bag — plus a 4.5" x 6.5" clutch. One bag plus one clutch per person.

TCU (Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth) — the most generous in the Big 12

TCU allows clear bags up to 14" x 14" — roomier than the usual standard — plus a small clutch "approximately the size of a hand."

Texas Tech (Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear tote or one-gallon bag, plus a 4.5" x 6.5" clutch.

UCF (FBC Mortgage Stadium, Orlando)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag, one-gallon bag, or 4.5" x 6.5" clutch. No bag check service at the stadium.

Utah (Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City)

Clear bags only — up to 12" x 12" x 6". Utah's published policy doesn't carve out a non-clear clutch exception, so play it safe and keep everything in the clear bag. One factory-sealed water bottle (1 liter or less) per person is allowed.

West Virginia (Milan Puskar Stadium, Morgantown)

Standard policy: 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag or one-gallon freezer bag, plus a hand-size clutch. Logos on clear bags are capped at 4.5" tall x 3.4" wide. One bag per person.

What to pack

For the standard 12" x 6" x 12" clear tote:

  • Phone and portable charger
  • Slim wallet, ID, one credit card
  • Sunglasses
  • Travel-size sunscreen
  • Lip balm and a tinted lip color
  • Hand sanitizer and tissues
  • A light scarf — cool night games in Boulder, Provo, and Morgantown are no joke.

Headed to BYU? You get one 5" x 8" x 1" clutch. Prioritize: phone, ID, card, lip color, key.

How to look polished under 16 different rulebooks

Because the Big 12 rules vary, the winning strategy is a two-piece system: a stadium-approved clear bag plus a small structured clutch that meets the tightest limits. Carry both at standard-policy schools; carry just the clutch at BYU; tuck the clutch inside the clear bag at Utah.

The bottom line

The Big 12 makes you do slightly more homework than the SEC, but the formula is the same: right bag, early arrival, and a scarf tied to the handle for team color. Check your school's official gameday page the week of the game — policies can change — and then forget about it and enjoy the season.
